In their native South Africa, there’s no rock band bigger than The Parlotones.
The Johannesburg-bred quartet have headlined the 20.000-seater Coca Cola Dome in their hometown in 2009, performed at the FIFA World Cup Kickoff Concert that was screened to an audience of
a billion in 2010, and were handpicked by Coldplay to open the British band’s stadium shows in Johannesburg and Cape Town in 2011.
Since the release of the band’s debut album “Radiocontrolledrobot” in 2005, Kahn Morbee (frontman and singer), Paul Hodgson (guitars), Glen Hodgson (bass guitar) and Neil Pauw (drums)
have become the biggest selling band in South Africa, achieving multiplatinum-selling status in their home country.
While “Radiocontrolledrobot” reached gold status in S/A and was nominated for Best Rock Album at 2006 South Africa Music Awards, the follow up “A World Next Door To Yours” was certififi ed
double platinum and remained on the South African Top 20 charts for more than twelve months and is still the biggest selling rock album of the last decade with having sold more than Coldplay, The
Killers and Oasis together.
The Parlotones’ 3rd and platinum selling album “Stardust Galaxy” (2009), won Best Rock Album at the 2010 SAMA’s and received massive attention all over the world.
“Stardust Galaxies” entered the German Top 100 sales charts and 3 Billboard Charts in the US.
Since 2009 The Parlotones have played over 500 shows in the US and Europe including G/S/A, France, Italy, Spain, Benelux, Russia and the UK where they packed out 1.000+ venues by word of
Highly acclaimed by not only South African press but also US press, the last decade pave the way for what’s coming next: the band’s brand new studio album “Journey Through The Shadows”
“Journey Through The Shadows” is the band’s fourth studio album including 12 brand new tracks of their undeniable romantic and anthemic rock sound while offering
several surprises along the way.
The fi rst single ‘Save Your Best Bits’, with its theme of not allowing negative things from the past to affect the good parts of your soul, and the celebratory ‘I Am Alive’
are about catharsis. They chase those moments of universal human experience when everyone in the room is uplifted by a shared emotion. That theme informs the
album’s title, “Journey Through The Shadows”, which singer Morbee explains, is a metaphor for the human experience. “You’re not given a guidebook or map at birth that
guarantees the smoothest path,” he says. “Ultimately, we all walk through with a candle that only allows us to see so far in front of ourselves. You never know what’s
around the corner, so it’s an analogy for life.”
No doubt that The Parlotones know how to create melody-minded arena-fi lling songs that transcend language and culture barriers.
“Journey Through The Shadows” will be released in 2 different formats.
While the standard package includes the full album on CD, the Limited Edition features a bonus DVD with the greatest videos of all hits like ‘Life Design’, ‘Beautiful’ and
‘Should We Fight Back’ as well as a never seen before Making Of footage from the recording sessions of the new album.
