“Superman‘s Song“, “The Ghosts That Haunt Me“, “Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm“, “Swimming In Your Ocean“, “He Liked To Feel It“ and “Keep A Lid On Things“ are just some of the Top 10 charting hit singles of one of the most successful Folk-Rock bands of the early
90’s. Crash Test Dummies are best known for their 1993’s platinum-selling and Grammy-nominated album “God Shuffled His Feet”
(over 5,5 million units sold; #9 US, #2 UK) and their hit single “Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm” which became a major Pop hit all over the world (#1 AUS, #2 UK, #4 US) and is still rotating on radio stations worldwide.
The band won the Juno Award for Group of the Year with their debut album “The Ghost That Haunt Me” (1991) which became one
of the year’s best-selling records in Canada and features their very fi rst hit single “Superman’s Song” (#4 CAN).
Their combination of Folk-Rock with witty lyrics and the deep, attention-grabbing voice of singer, creative force and frontman Brad
Roberts (the only consistence member besides Ellen Reid) brought the band a high recognition value and a remarkable commercial success.
Now, six years after their last album Crash Test Dummies are back with a brand new studio release including 11 fresh songs all with the captivating charm of the band’s beginning.
“Oooh La La!” is the band’s ninth album, following 2004’s “Songs Of The Unforgiven”.
Basically a work of lead singer Brad Roberts and co-writer and producer Steve Lerman (Antony & The Johnsons, The Roches) “Oooh La La!” consists of 11 conceptualized tracks using an analog music toy from the ‘70s called Optigan (it projects the sounds of other instruments with different sets of keys triggering chords and individual notes).
The result is a wonderful, glittering Folk-Rock album that won’t only enchant longtime fans - every song tells its own, poetic story, embedded in nostalgic tunes of Country “What I’m Famous For”, ‘50s Doo-Wop “Paralyzed”, big band Swing “Now You See Her” and a full-blown love song “And It’s Beautiful”.
All in all this record is like what it’s called: Oooh La La - A collection of beautifully crafted instrumental parts result in a headstrong
album which even revitalised Brad in a way that the Crash Test Dummies will be on tour this summer for the first time in 6 years as an acoustic trio with Ellen and Brad singing and Stuart Cameron playing acoustic guitar.
