The Wake of Magellan
Over a career spanning twelve albums and countless live performances, Savatage has become a band of staggering power and limitless
creativity. Formed by Jon and Criss Oliva in the early ‘80s, Savatage quickly established itself at the cutting edge of the Hard Rock world. Tempering savage Metal attacks with haunting orchestrations and a distinctive melodic sense, the band has pushed the artistic envelope of their genre and, in the process, garnered a large world-wide following.
The unexpected death of guitarist Criss Oliva who was hit and killed by a drunk driver in 1993 shattered the band.
Savatage continued on with various line-ups and released a total of 12 studio albums plus 2 live albums. At their 25th anniversary in 2007, Jon Oliva announced the defi nite breakup of Savatage.
The band’s 11th studio album originally released in 1998. It is one of the Symphonic Rock concept albums that coincidentally formed the sound of Savatage’s successful side project “Trans Siberian Orchestra”, a mixture of Rock Opera and Musical.
“The Wake Of Magellan" was our third concept album and the second CD with the new line up. For all of us, it was an enjoyable album to make.”
