Both albums at their time entering the Top 10 in the UK and are THE 2 Skunk Anansie albums that matter and everyone should have: “Paranoid & Sunburnt” (1995) and “Stoosh” (1996), now being re-released together with special vinyl addition.
“Paranoid & Sunburnt” is Skunk Anansie’s debut album first released in 1995. Recorded with the band’s original drummer Robbie France, this album is a political and racial anthems not only made for one of the angriest British records to make it stateside since the Sex Pistols, but they also created a record where frenzied feedback, resonating riffs, and self-deprecating wit found their own reactive power in that anger‘s face. Following the success of their debut album “Paranoid & Sunburnt”, Skunk Anansie wasted no time in getting their second album “Stoosh”, recorded and released a year later in 1996. Produced by Garth Richardson (Rage Against the Machine, L7) the results were amazing. Featuring new drummer Mark Richardson (ex-little Angels) it contains a harder-edged collection of songs, characterized by metal-edged guitar and Skin spitting out her lyrics. In most cases controversial lyrics end up sounding contrived, but on this collection Skin sounded as though she really meant it. Her anger on the excellent opening track, ‘Yes It‘s Fucking Political’, was almost tangible. Ballads like ‘Pickin’ on Me’, ‘Brazen (Weep)’ or the hit-single ‘Hedonism (Just Because You Feel Good)’ makes the album smoother.
Truely enjoy the hardcore band with their first two albums. Re-released in 2009, they are now available as special editions, including the full albums on vinyl as well as CD: a tribute to one of the most well-known and hardest pop-rock to come out of the UK.
