Under The Influence
With more than 118 million records sold all over the world, Status Quo is one of the most important UK Rock bands of all time. Founded by guitarist Francis Rossi and bassist Alan Lancaster in 1962 they later became the Status Quo which influenced generations of musicians and entertained millions with their driving, no-nonsense brand of Rock. As of today they have recorded 63 British hit singles - more than any other band - 22 of which have hit the Top Ten. Status Quo has made 106 appearances on BBC TV’s ‘Top of the Pops’ - More than any other group. They have spent in excess of seven and a half years (415 weeks) in the British Singles Chart - The eleventh highest ever and have had more hit albums (32) in the British Albums Chart than any other band apart from The Rolling Stones.
Today Status Quo are: Francis Rossi (vocal; guitar), Rick Parfitt (guitar) - both being the only original members in the current line-up. Keyboard player Andrew Bown joined in 1976, John ‘Rhino‘ Edwards (bass) joined in 1986 and Matt Letley (drums) arrived in May 2000. The band is currently working on their new studio album “Quid Pro Quo” to be released on earMUSIC in May 2011.
Originally released in 1999, “Under The Influence” is an amazing collection of 12 stunning rock’n’roll songs. From melodic songs such as ‘Little White Lies’ to hard rockers like ‘Shine On’ and ‘Keep ‘Em Coming’, this album has a whole round
of heavier rock feel of the bands sound in the late 70‘s due to producer Mike Paxman. Not to miss the perfectly arranged Buddy Holly cover of ‘Not Fade Away’.
According to the fans this would definitely be known as the best album Status Quo has made in their almost 50 years career. With the whole album being re-mastered in 2011 as well as exclusive bonus tracks, the 2011 re-issue of “Under The Infl uence” is not a simple re-issue but a Deluxe Fan Edition of the album. While ‘Sea Cruise’ as well as ‘I Knew The Bride’ have been originally released as B sides to the singles of the album, the live version of ‘Twenty Wild Horses’ has been recorded at The Nokia Night Of The Proms in 1999.
