Artistic content
Edel AG’s activity as a media company which specializes in distributing entertainment content results per se in a certain degree of cultural sustainability. This, in turn, hinges on the artistic quality of the content particularly in view of the wide range of content which the Company distributes. The fact that artistic quality is not always synonymous with economic success and vice versa is a cliché. Yet, the two factors are directly related in most segments of the entertainment industry. Thus, for example, the efforts taken by Edel Classics to revive the traditional Eastern German label Eterna primarily serve business objectives yet also have a substantial cultural dimension due to their relevance for music history. The same can also be said of the debut CD of a young rock band, the concert DVD of a successful jazz musician, a children’s audiobook or a book on how to save energy: In addition to their economic value, all entertainment productions invariably exhibit certain cultural and social merits, albeit to a differing extent. As a business entity, Edel AG must primarily be guided by economic factors in selecting its content. Yet, with such an emotion-laden product as music, artistic values, enthusiasm and the proverbial “gut feeling” also play an important role. In this connection, the Company’s business model and strategy permit stylistic diversity extending across all types of music. The focus is determined solely by market and company-based considerations rather than personal preferences or convictions, except for the proviso that all forms of extreme content are rejected: The Company strictly refuses to exploit any politically radical or pornographic content or any other material unsuitable for young people. Needless to say, all video releases adhere to the voluntary self-monitoring system (FSK) and carry the corresponding designations stipulated by the Youth Protection Act, which has recently been tightened up.
