Edel AG considers the responsible use of natural resources to be vital particularly for its production companies. The systematic observance of the latest environmental directives is just as important to us as the avoidance, reduction and proper disposal of waste. Thus, numerous steps to reduce and avoid strain on the environment have been implemented at the optimal media production replication and logistics center. In fact, these are incorporated in the planning stage for extensions to the group’s facilities, most recently in connection with the printing and media center. As part of efforts to assess environmental risks, internal examinations are performed in regular intervals and measures defined in close consultation with the responsible insurance company to maintain and improve environmental activities.
Optimal is a license and contractual partner with the waste disposal system Der Grüne Punkt – Duales System Deutschland GmbH, Cologne. Against this backdrop and aided by its specialist knowledge, optimal offers its customers a special service ensuring compliance with the packaging ordinance by obtaining the necessary sales packaging license and ensuring proper disposal on behalf of its customers. At optimal, top priority is given to avoiding wasteful use of resources and avoiding strain on the economy. A specially trained environmental officer oversees all departments to ensure that the hazardous substances required for production are stored and utilized in accordance with the applicable rules. Waste materials and water are disposed of or processed expertly either by the company itself or with the assistance of certified waste management companies.
Further examples of the environmental protection efforts taken include the use of closed cooling water circuits in data media production or the utilization of the warmth given off by the production facilities to heat the storage areas. All relevant equipment is regularly examined in accordance with the statutory provisions and compliance with emission thresholds certified. The printing and production processes are regularly checked to ensure compliance with emission limits for waste water, dust and noise. Yet, environmental awareness is not confined to the production companies but is also taken seriously at all other Edel sites as well. For example, Edel has been separating house and office waste for many years, with the CEO in person occasionally making sure that this rule is observed.
