Variety, courage and quality are the keynotes which were set by MPS – Musikproduktion Schwarzwald – as Germany’s first jazz label, winning world fame for its founder Hans-Georg Brunner-Schwer. With jazz repertoire alone, MPS had built up a catalogue of 500 albums between 1963 and 1983. Since 2014, MPS has been part of the Edel AG family.
The catalogue has been steadily expanded ever since. By the end of 2017, all albums will be available in digital form.
The digital offering will be backed up by reissue of selected catalogue titles on CD, tape and vinyl in connoisseur quality, including albums by Oscar Peterson, George Duke and Monty Alexander. What’s more, the label’s work is being reactivated after a break of more than 30 years. That means new recordings by Rolf Kühn, Malia, Django DeLuxe, Malakoff Kowalski and Lisa Bassenge. The success of these efforts has taken tangible form in 3 ECHO Jazz Awards. New albums from Mari Boine and China Moses will continue the cavalcade of world-acclaimed artists on MPS.
